The Nelson Mandela Foundation will host a Remembrance Walk and Run on Sunday in Pretoria to mark 12 years since the passing of the former president.
The event will start at the Union Buildings and is expected to draw thousands of participants from across the country.
Mandela, a towering figure in the struggle against apartheid, devoted 67 years of his life to the fight for freedom, including 27 years imprisoned on Robben Island.
He passed away on December 5, 2013, at his home in Houghton at the age of 95.
Mbongiseni Buthelezi, CEO of the Nelson Mandela Foundation, said that Mandela’s legacy continues to inspire people worldwide.
“It is an honour to mark 12 years since his passing with more than 10,000 people joining us in Pretoria for his remembrance,” he said.
Buthelezi also encouraged those unable to attend in person to participate virtually, ensuring that people everywhere can pay tribute to Mandela’s enduring legacy.
