New hijacking trick in Pretoria
Updated | By Sinethemba Madolo
Police have motorists of a new
hijacking method after two drivers fell victim to the same trick.

Pretoria police spokesperson Colette Weilbach says an unknown motorist would convince the would-be victim to pull over to the side of the road by warning them of an apparent flat tyre.
Weilbach says after the driver pulls over, another car would stop next to it - pretending to help.
She says criminals pull a gun on the victim and steal the car.

“Previously, the same modus operandi was used to hijack truck drivers. Motorist would indicate to the driver that there was something wrong with the back of the truck and then the truck driver pulls over and he gets hijacked," Weilbach says.
She says motorists should ensure their cars are roadworthy so that they do not fall prey to this trick.
"Always inspect vehicles and trucks before any trip. Enforce a no stop policy for drivers if possible and do not stop on the freeway to drop passengers off or to pick anybody up. Avoid stopping at remote places and remember there is safety in motion," Weilbach adds.
