New SA visa regulations for children

New SA visa regulations for children

The Department of Home affairs will from 1 June 2015 enforce new visa regulations for children travelling in and out of the country.

The new regulation requires parents travelling with a minor to produce an unabridged birth certificate of the child reflecting the details of both parents.

An aunt, brother, friend or uncle travelling with a minor is required to present both an unbridged birth certificate of the child and an affidavit from the parents or legal guardian confirming permission to travel with the child.

These new regulations come as a Cape Town girl was stopped at OR Tambo International Airport this month on her way to join terror group, Islamic State in Syria (ISIS)

It's reported that the girl was stopped just 10 days after a 15-year old girl from Cape Town was stopped on a plane, also reportedly heading to join ISIS.

The new regulations require a minor travelling alone to produce proof of consent from one of or both parents or legal guardian in the form of a letter or affidavit.

Home affairs said these new immigration laws are meant to protect citizens and improve lives.
