The AA's Layton Beard says the price of petrol is set to drop at the beginning of June, but this may change due to the new tax.
Beard says early indications are that petrol is supposed to decrease by seven cents a litre for the month of June with diesel increasing by 12 cents.

This would be the fifth increase this year alone.
"It is a mixed bag going into June, but we will certainly have a clear picture of what this number is going to tell us at the end of May," Beard said.
