Nkabane hopeful National Assembly will pass her budget
Updated | By Cliff Shiko
Higher Education and Training Minister Nobuhle Nkabane remains hopeful that the National Assembly will pass her department’s budget on Thursday.
On Tuesday, political parties in the National Council of Provinces, including the DA, MK Party and EFF, voted against Nkabane's budget.
Nkabane is under pressure to resign amid allegations that she lied to Parliament over an advisory panel purportedly responsible for appointing the Sector Education and Training Authorities (SETAs) board chairs.
Nkabane addressed the media in Cape Town on Wednesday.
The minister reiterated that she is not bothered by those calling for her resignation.
"The budget is for the people of South Africa. I believe maybe when you go to the National Assembly tomorrow, they are going to support it because it is our responsibility as public representatives to champion the interests of our people."
