Nkandla dividing the ANC
Updated | By Olivia Phalaetsile
Political analyst Dale McKinley says the Nkandla controversy will continue to cause divisions within the ANC.
His comments come after ANC Secretary General Gwede Mantashe reportedly said the only way to get the Nkandla saga out of the way is if President Jacob Zuma steps down from office.
City Press reported Mantashe lashed out at the police minister's Nkandla report, saying he needs to clarify what he means by saying more money needs to be spent at Zuma's private homestead.
McKinley says Nkandla has been dividing the ANC from the moment it came to the public's attention.
McKinley says the risk of division is it will weaken the organisation.
City Press also reported Gauteng ANC leader Paul Mashatile suggested to the ANC that the party should rather pay for the non-security upgrades.
McKinley says Mashatile's statements show the ANC in Gauteng want to distance themselves from Nkandla.
McKinley says if the ANC wants to get the Nkandla issue out of the way they need to come clean.
