EC Health MEC Sindiswa Gomba spoke on Algoa FM on Friday morning.

She said even though Sweden is not a high-risk area, they wanted to be safe and therefore arranged for the people to be tested.

When asked about the readiness of the EC Province Gomba said: "The truth of the matter, looking at the EC Health Department, is that we are not confident to say that we are ready. We may say we are preparing spaces for any eventuality should it happen. However, those spaces that we are preparing are spaces that are well equipped. That, at least when any case comes we can immediately use those spaces like in Frere Hospital."

She explained that the ward in Frere had about 22 beds which are separated into an isolation part and one to be used for quarantine and felt comfortable in Frere Hospital's ability to tackle the outbreak.

The Eastern Cape is one of only three provinces who are yet to confirm a positive case of Covid-19.

The Northern Cape and North West is also "Covid-free".

The Free State Province confirmed it's first positive case on Thursday.

Health Minister Zweli Mkhize has told doctors that he expects the number of Covid-19 infections in South Africa to reach 200 by Friday.
