No-confidence motion a response to disciplinary action, says Brink

Tshwane Mayor Cilliers Brink believes the ANC's motion of no confidence against him is due to disciplinary measures taken against senior officials.

The ANC in Tshwane held a media briefing last Friday, where it outlined its reasons for the no-confidence motion, which will be tabled in the city's next council meeting.
The ANC claims that service delivery in the city has deteriorated during Brink's tenure.
However, Brink has hit back, saying the ANC wants to take Tshwane “back to the days of looting and internal mismanagement with no consequences”.
"So last week, it became apparent that there is a motion of no confidence here in the city of Tshwane and that it is motivated by new performance requirements on a waste removal contract," said Brink.
"There were very strong indications that businesses with links to the ANC in the municipal council don't want to comply with those standards and that their interests being threatened are big enough for them to want to remove the mayor in order to serve their business interests.”
Brink further described the planned motion as a fight against the cleanup operation in the city.
"It is important to note that unless we do these things unless we tighten performance requirements unless we hold senior managers to the highest standards, we will not be able to improve service delivery.
"As a mayor, I do not interfere in disciplinary matters, but I do back the city manager and his team if they implement proper consequence management because you cannot have the rules being broken without being broken.”
