‘No impact on service delivery’ - Emfuleni loses use of municipal vehicles
Updated | By Sibahle Motha
The embattled Emfuleni Local Municipality has lost all its vehicles amid a labour dispute with some of its employees.
The latest attachment by the local sheriff comes a month after power utility Eskom attached the municipality’s bank accounts due to non-payment.
Municipal spokesperson Makhosonke Sangweni says the employees are demanding to be moved to a different salary scale.
“There are people who want to be moved from level six to level five. Because level five has different benefits like a car allowance, part of the reasons they want to be moved is that there has been many consistencies.

“These are things that have happened over the years. The labour court gave a directive that employees and the. Municipality must meet and have negatiantions and give us three months. It was premature for the court to attach without being patient.”
Sangweni vows the loss of vehicles will not affect service delivery.
“One thing we can assure you is that they will not disrupt services. Basic services and services will continue unhindered.”
