No major changes to petrol, diesel prices in October
Updated | By Emile Pienaar
The Department of Mineral and Petroleum Resources announced on Tuesday that the fuel prices will not change significantly in October.
93 octane petrol will rise by 1 cent a litre, while 95 octane goes up by 8 cents.
Diesel, meanwhile, will drop by between 8 and 10 cents a litre.
“Illuminating paraffin at a wholesale level will decrease by 11 cents a litre and at the retail level will decrease by 15 cents a litre,” said the department’s Robert Maake.
He said the maximum price of LP gas will decrease by 17 cents per kilogram.
“The reasons are a slight increase in Brent crude oil prices during the period under review. The international prices of all petroleum products decreased on average during the period under review,” Maake added.
"The rand appreciated on average against the US dollar and cushioned the fuel prices by 14 to 15 cents per litre. The minister has approved a 6.1 cents per litre increase in the retail margin of both grades of petrol to accommodate the wage increases for the forecourt employees in line with the Motor Industry Bargaining Council wage settlement agreement that was signed on 23 August 2025."
