No more ‘doing business as usual’ in classrooms: Motshekga

Basic Education Minister, Angie Motshekga says the outcomes of her department’s  three day Lekgotla highlighted that the “days of doing business as usual are over” in the South African classroom.

Motshekga delivered the closing remarks of the Lekgotla on Saturday morning. 

 


“In the last days our speakers opined that the days of doing business as usual are over, they expressed the view that we have to move in haste in engaging in business unusual.

“Even in the last few days, his excellency the President and the three speakers emphasised the importance of our theme of equipping learners with knowledge and skills of a changing world,” she said.

 


The Covid-19 pandemic has turned South Africa’s schooling system into disarray.

 


Some schools were able to turn to online learning, but many learners were left behind as a result.

 


Motshekga highlighted the importance of introducing ICT in schools, but she says this would not be a replacement for school teachers.
