No one should go more than a day without water - Ramphosa
Updated | By Cliff Shiko
President Cyril Ramaphosa says the government is aware that poor service delivery has contributed to the trust deficit between itself and communities around the country.
The remarks follows a wave of protests over prolonged water outages in Johannesburg and other parts of the country this week.
Ramaphosa spoke in Rustenburg on Friday during an intergovernmental intervention to improve service delivery at local government level in the North West.
He said communities are bearing the brunt of instability at local government level, while some municipalities have repeatedly been placed under administration.
"No one should go more than a day without running water while there is a deafening silence from the municipal offices about when water will be restored,” the president warned.
"We are now seeing a spate of protests in a number of areas in our country, communities who are protesting about the lack of service delivery, particularly in relation to water."
"These challenges have contributed to a trust deficit between government and communities,” Ramaphosa said, adding that these type of engagements are aimed at closing the gaps and find solutions to the problems.
