The South African National Defence Force (SANDF) has denied reports that soldiers in Mozambique had been given rotten food.

SANDF says a portion of rations got spoiled before use, as a result of a mobile pantry storage facility that broke down last month in the mission.

Spokesperson Andries Mahapa says following the unfortunate incident two deep freezers were purchased and sent to Macomia.

“New demands were submitted to replace bad rations, the SANDF further assisted in procuring fresh fruits and vegetables at the local market, during the time when a mobile pantry storage facility had ceased to function. Members were given dry rations in order to supplement the spoiled rations.”
