‘For now I remain chairperson’ Mkhwebane faces wait on recusal application
Chairperson of the section 194 inquiry Richard Dyanti says he remains the chairperson of the committee that is looking into suspended public protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane's fitness to hold office.
Dyanti's comments come as most of the ANC and DA MPs rejected Mkhwebane's application for Dyanti to recuse himself.
"Members have indicated that even though they respect the fact that the chairperson must still come and make his response, as members of this committee you've been part of this process in their majority are rejecting this application.I would recall because the members were very clear in saying that,” he said on Friday.
"As things stand, before I make that response the chair remains the chairperson of this committee and will be chairing the committee that will give a response and a decision from the chair as well as that meeting that will have the legal advice tabled to.”

Mkhwebane, who is represented by Advocate Dali Mpofu, last month filed for Dyantyi to recuse himself from the committee.
Among the reasons that were cited are that Dyantyi took "unlawful and unilateral amendment of directives and the misapplication thereof; refusal to subpoena President Cyril Ramaphosa and unduly favouring the evidence leaders and unwarranted proximity to collusion with them; and generally adopting an oppositional posture towards the PP and/or her representatives”.
