NPA considering options on Zuma corruption charges matter
Updated | By ANA
National Director of Public Prosecutions Shaun Abrahams on Wednesday told MPs the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) was still mulling its next step with regard to a high court ruling that the institution’s decision to drop 783 corruption charges against President Jacob Zuma was irrational.

The Constitutional court last week ruled that it was not “prepared at this stage” to hear an appeal against the ruling by the high court in Pretoria.
The NPA was not party to Wednesday’s proceedings at the Supreme Court of Appeal where Zuma was petitioning judges for leave to appeal the Pretoria court ruling. After a hearing behind closed doors, the SCA made an order that the matter, which is being opposed by the Democratic Alliance, should be heard in open court.
Abrahams said the NPA is taking legal advice.
“The leadership of the institution [NPA] have consulted with senior counsel on the matter and we are currently considering our position,” he said.
“Of course, we’ll consider our approach in respect of the matter and make a decision in due course….”
