NPA exploring options after State Capture prosecution blow
Updated | By Cliff Shiko
The National Prosecuting Authority says it is weighing up its options on whether to appeal the decision to drop charges against the accused in the State Capture-linked company, Nulane Investment, case.
On Friday the High Court in Bloemfontein acquitted Limakatso Moorosi in the R24.9-million fraud and money laundering matter.
This was the first major Gupta-linked state capture case from the NPA to reach the trial stage.
Moorosi was acquitted in terms of Section 174 of the Criminal Procedure Act which states that an accused may be discharged at the close of a case for prosecution.
"We will be reflecting on the judgment with a view to determining legal avenues to explore, “said the Investigative Directorate’s Sindisiwe Seboka.
“The outcome of this case has no bearing on our ability to prosecute other state capture cases,” she says.
"We remain resolute in our commitment and ability to vigorously prosecute those responsible for state capture and corruption.’’
