NPA to oppose Vusimuzi ‘Cat’ Matlala’s bail application
Updated | By Bulletin / Jacaranda FM
Businessman Vusimuzi 'Cat' Matlala's bail application has been postponed to 2 September at the Alexandra Magistrate’s Court in Johannesburg.
The National Prosecuting Authority requested to finalise the centralisation of seven dockets across different jurisdictions.
Matlala faces charges of attempted murder and conspiracy to commit murder for the alleged failed plot to kill his then-girlfriend, actor Tebogo Thobejane, in 2023.
The socialite was shot in the foot when she was ambushed near a popular Sandton establishment.
She also confirmed that the case against Matlala, his wife, and three others will return to court on 7 October.
“There are seven dockets, two from Orlando, two from Sandton, two from Pretoria, and one from Vereeniging,” the NPA’s Phindi Mjonondwane.
“We have to get the approval of the National Director of Public Prosecution to centralise the Vereeniging and the Pretoria dockets because they fall under a different jurisdiction.”
Matlala has previously been linked to irregular multi-million-rand government tenders, including the Tembisa Hospital looting that led to the assassination of whistleblower Babita Deokaran in August 2021.
News24 has also published a series of investigative reports implicating the 49-year-old in a questionable R360 million tender with the South African Police Service.
