NSFAS concerned over a low turnout of TVET applications

National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) has urged
potential higher education students who have not applied for the bursary, to do
so before the due date.

NSFAS’ Kagisho Mamabolo says the applicants have nine days left to apply and submit required documents.
However, he stresses the funding scheme is concerned over the low turnout for applications for TVET collages.
"This is a great concern because it means that we might anticipate a late arrival or a walking number at TVET colleges in January, which may pose a challenge of having been approved for funding or acceptance at a college," says Mamabolo.
Mamabolo adds the higher education funding scheme has received more than 265 000 applications.
He says 12 % of the applicants have indicated their intentions of attending TVET colleges, while 88 per cent want to attend universities.
Mamabolo adds over 150 000 applications have been processed to the next stage and about 30 000 applications are missing supporting documents.
