Numsa prepares to down tools at Gautrain

The National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (Numsa) says it will ballot its members to decide whether to proceed with a strike at Gautrain.
Wage talks between the union and Bombela Operating Company, which manages the Gautrain, have deadlocked.
The trade union is demanding a 7% across-the-board wage increase, as well as an increase in the housing and transport allowance.
The company is offering a 4.2% hike.
The union was granted a certificate to strike and has given the employer 48 hours ' notice of its intention to down tools.
The planned strike follows a breakdown in wage negotiations with the Bombela Operating Company last month.
NUMSA national spokesperson Phakamile Hlubi-Majola said workers at Gautrain deserve a living wage.
"This is not just a wage dispute. It’s a question of dignity and fairness. The demands we are making are reasonable given that the cost of living is extremely high.
"This is why we say, CPI Increases are not enough – workers at Gautrain deserve a living wage,
"We call on the Bombela Operating Company and the Gautrain Management Agency to put a meaningful offer on the table."
