NUMSA wants SOE boards 'scrapped'
Updated | By Pieter van der Merwe
Amid various allegations against South Africa's state owned entities, NUMSA wants to see these boards scrapped to ensure good governance and transparency.

The National Union of Metal Workers of South Africa (NUMSA) is demanding that the boards of South Africa's state owned entities be scrapped.
NUMSA released a statement on Sunday morning, saying "workers and their families are suffering from the impact of corruption at various SOEs".
Spokesperson Phakamile Hlube says these include Eskom, the Road Accident Fund as well as South African Airways.
Numsa believes the boards are appointed by the governing party to facilitate the looting of South Africa's coffers.
SAA was recently granted a R3 billion bailout, while Eskom is trying to recoup close to R1.6 billion in unlawful payments from McKinsey and the Gupta linked Trillian.
The union now insists these boards need to be "democratised".
"We repeat our demand that the boards of all SOEs must be made of trade union representatives, business and government officials," says Hlube.
She adds this is the only way transparency, good governance and accountability can be ensured.
