Transport Minister Blade Nzimande launched the new online booking service at the Centurion licencing centre on Thursday.
“We hope this is going to shorten the queue here and shorten people's time,” says Nzimande.
He says some people have to take the whole day off work for a service that is only supposed to take 10 minutes.
He adds the system will also help eliminate corruption at the licensing departments.
“Some ask people to come stand in the queue here for them, they actually pay bribes from the security to the desk.”
He says the national department wants to roll the system out to the rest of the country as soon as possible.
The system will enable users to register on the website, book appointments at any of the four licensing centres and renew your license in Gauteng.
The new online system is currently available in Gauteng at Akasia, Waltloo, Centurion and Bronkhorstspruit licensing centres.
