Orlando West residents take to the streets
Updated | By Lindiwe Mpanza
Residents of Orlando West in Soweto took to the streets on Monday afternoon.
The metro police in Johannesburg says the protesting residents, who are believed to be unhappy about service delivery in the area, blocked the Soweto Highway and the N17 circle in Orlando West.
It is understood that the protesters are demanding houses at the Mzimhlophe women's hostel.
Metro police spokesperson Wayne Minnaar says the protesters are demanding houses which they claim are unoccupied.
“More officers are being sent to that location to control the situation.”
Motorists were urged to drive with caution when approaching the Soweto Highway and the N17 circle.
