Palesa Malatji probably knew her killers, says Police Minister

Police Minister General Bheki Cele believes that 17-year old Palesa Malatji probably knew her killers and that is why they could not let her live after raping her.
Cele was addressing mourners at the funeral held for Malatji in Soshanguve on Saturday morning.
Malatji’s body was recovered a week ago in a busy area in Soshanguve, where she was raped and murdered.
It is believed she was stopped while walking home from afternoon extra classes for Grade 12s on Thursday afternoon, 25 May 2023.
Her body was only discovered a day later.

“Okay you have done it. Okay you have done it, why don’t you let her go? You know why? Because Palesa knows who this person is. Women are not safe from men they know. These women are victims when they close the door, she becomes a victim at her house. Women are victims wherever they go. Most of us are not husbands or boyfriends, we are criminals,” said an emotional Cele.
He vowed to return to the community to give an update on the investigation.
Six people have so far been questioned by police, but no-one has been arrested.
