Pandor: No 'shambles' at NSFAS

Higher Education and Training Minister Naledi Pandor has elaborated on her decision to halt the opening of National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) applications for 2019.
Applications were supposed to open on Wednesday but Pandor ordered it to be put on hold until NSFAS's 2018 processes were properly concluded.
Speaking at the African National Congress’ (ANC) Luthuli House headquarters on Wednesday, Pandor denied media reports that there is a crisis at NSFAS.
"However there are matters of administration of bursaries to applicants that must be concluded for the year 2018 and the academic 2017,” Pandor said.
Pandor reiterated her decision that until she is assured that all outstanding matters are resolved - Nsfas application cannot go ahead.
"Once you open applications, we defocus from 2017 and 2018. And then have a situation, where institutions are owed money, students are not receiving their allowances."
Pandor says while institution had been paid and students received their allowances, she has a number of other concerns.
