Parliament extends ad hoc committee for a fifth time
National Assembly speaker Thoko Didiza has extended the mandate of the ad hoc committee investigating KwaZulu-Natal police commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi's allegations until 11 September.
The committee was established to investigate alleged corruption, political interference, and criminal cartel infiltration in the Police Service.
Its previous mandate expired at the end of last month, but it failed to complete its work. Didiza said assembly rules allow the committee's deadline to be extended until its task is concluded.
RAMAPHOSA RECEIVES SECOND INTERIM MADLANGA REPORT
Meanwhile, President Cyril Ramaphosa has received the second interim report from the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry, which is also probing allegations of interference and impropriety in the criminal justice system.
According to the Presidency, the commission submitted its report to Ramaphosa on 29 May 2026. This follows last year’s submission of the first interim report on 17 December.
The final report on the completion of the inquiry will be submitted on 16 November 2026.
In its report, the commission recommends the institution of disciplinary proceedings and the immediate investigation of criminal conduct and, if sufficient evidence is found to exist, the institution of criminal proceedings against national deputy police commissioner Lieutenant General Shadrack Sibiya, a protected witness known only as Witness G, Sergeant Fannie Nkosi, and alleged political fixer Mr Brown Mogotsi.
