Gauteng police are hunting for five gunmen who shot and killed a pastor during a robbery at a church in Diepsloot on Friday night.
Police say the five suspects opened fire on churchgoers before robbing them of their belongings.
The congregants were gathered for an overnight prayer service at the time of the robbery.
Police spokesperson Mavela Masondo says two congregants were wounded.
“It is alleged that about 50 congregants were busy worshipping when five unknown men entered the church and started to shoot randomly. They robbed the congregants of their cash and cell phones.
“Three of the people who were shot, including the pastor, were taken to a local medical centre where the pastor died on arrival. The other two are in serious but stable condition.
“A case of murder, attempted murder and business robbery has been opened and police are searching for the suspects.”
