Updated | By Bulletin and JacarandaFM Newswatch
South African motorists are facing record fuel prices from Wednesday, with 95 octane petrol's prices expected to rise by more than R3.00 a litre and pass the R30 mark for the first time.
The latest Central Energy Fund figures put the projected increase at R3.21, taking the inland price to about R30.13 a litre.
Diesel prices could also hit a record, with the more expensive grade potentially rising by over R3.00 to about R33.15.
Government will announce the final prices next week.
-Government working to make public transport affordable-
Addressing the launch of Transport Month on Thursday, Transport Minister Barbara Creecy said government is working to make public transport more affordable as households and transport operators continue to grapple with rising costs and fuel prices.
Creecy said the impact of geopolitical tensions on supply chains, trade routes and fuel prices made the year particularly difficult for households, bus and taxi operators, as well as the broader freight and logistics industry.
She said government’s focus was to ensure that transport enables people to access economic and social opportunities rather than becoming a barrier.
