Updated | By Nokukhanya Mntambo
A 12-year-old boy drowned on Sunday afternoon while swimming with friends at an excavation site outside Evander in Gauteng's East Rand.
It's believed the excavation site had filled with water from the recent week-long rains.
The site is estimated at 4 to 5 meters deep.
ER24's Ross Campbell said that paramedics and search-and-rescue divers were called out by police.
"ER24 paramedics along with Delta 1 divers and Search & Rescue arrived at 17:55 after receiving a call from the SAPS.
"SAPS diver Sgt Nagel and Andries Lee from Delta 1 managed to recover the body."
