Police launch manhunt following Thokoza CIT heist
Updated | By Jacaranda Newswatch
Police are on a lookout for an unconfirmed number of suspects who committed a daring cash-in-transit robbery in Thokoza on the East Rand on Saturday afternoon.
It is reported that the cash-in-transit armoured vehicle was driving in Thokoza when it was hit by a white Mercedes-Benz, which caused it to overturn.
Police spokesperson Mavela Masondo says that a number of suspects then disarmed the security officers and bombed the armoured vehicle.
"They took an undisclosed amount of cash while other suspects were shooting at the escort vehicle," said Masondo.
"The suspect then drove off in four vehicles.
"A thirteen-year-old girl was hit by a stray bullet, and she was taken to a nearby hospital."
