The march, attended by hundreds of EFF members, was in contravention of the level 3 regulations.

The party is demanding the regulator urgently approve Russia's Sputnik and Chinese Sinovac vaccines in a bid to ramp up the country’s inoculation drive.

Gauteng police spokesperson Brenda Muridili says they will lay the criminal charge after the march.

"To open a case against the convener of the march because clearly, the numbers are more than as stipulated by the regulations.

"For now, we are policing the march, we are observing and we are there to ensure that everything goes peacefully.

"After the march has dispersed, there will be a report that will be compiled, and based on that report, it will be decided which charges will be laid against the convener."

EFF leader Julius Malema has given the regulator seven days to approve Sputnik and Sinovac vaccine.
