Police prepared for festive season, vows Bheki Cele

Police Minister Bheki Cele has vowed to ensure a safe festive season, saying police would not tolerate unruly behaviour.

Silly season is fast approaching and the number of incidents is on the rise.

 

Speaking at the launch of the festive season Safety campaign in Umlazi, south of Durban, Cele called for the assistance from the community in fighting crime.

 

"From here we are simply saying we shall not be part of any criminal activities as the people of Umlazi, as the people of South Africa and we'll work together with the South African police to reduce all forms of crime.

 

"We'll be good citizens and make sure that we all fight, deal and finally defeat the crime."

 

Police also launched an app which will allow South Africa can report criminals.

 

"We are calling on you to assist police in reporting where the criminals are hiding. You've been given an app to report them, use the app to bring the criminals to us," said Cele.

The soccer star's family gave an update on the lack of progress in the investigation into his murder on Friday . Meyiwa was gunned down at the house of his girlfriend, songstress Kelly Khumalo, in 2014. Soon afterwards, police arrested a suspect, but he was later released.

Cele also visited a police operation in a high crime area in Durban ahead of the launch.
