Detectives probing the death of a 65-year-old woman following a
fire in her flat in Park Drive in Gqeberha say they are now investigating a
case of murder.
Police spokesperson Priscilla Naidu says the woman’s partially burnt body was found in her flat at Fernkloof on Tuesday morning.
“The investigation initially started as an inquest, however evidence collected at the scene of the fire, suggests that there could be foul play.”
Meanwhile, Atlas Security said in a short statement that their Armed Response Officers found the vehicle of the victim in Victoria Drive where it had been abandoned.
"The SAPS was contacted, and the investigating officer and the K9 Unit took over the scene to continue the investigation."
Naidu says the deceased woman cannot be identified until her next of kin can be traced.
She says woman apparently has a son in Gqeberha and police need to urgently locate him.
