It is alleged that the suspects entered a residential complex in Palm Ridge and held the family at gunpoint.
Gauteng police spokesperson Mavela Masondo says the suspects took two television sets, a laptop and two cell phones before driving off with the family in their two cars.
"A couple, aged 38 and 40 years, as well as their children aged 20 months, 6 and 13 years were later dropped in Cleveland where they walked to the local police station to report the matter.
"Their two cars, a Mercedes Benz and a Toyota bakkie, were found abandoned in Katlehong this morning.”
