Police searching for truck driver involved in deadly KZN crash

Police in KwaZulu-Natal are searching for the truck driver involved in Tuesday morning’s crash which claimed the lives of 12 people, including a pregnant woman.
The driver fled the scene after allegedly failing to stop at a crossing near Wartburg, close to Pietermaritzburg in KwaZulu-Natal.
The truck crashed into a minibus on the R33, killing twelve and leaving 6 others injured.
KZN police spokesperson Thembeka Mbele says the truck driver fled the scene.
"A truck which failed to stop at the stop sign fled the scene and is being sought by the police. Culpable homicide, reckless and negligent driving and failing to stop after an accident have been recorded for investigation.”
Police were still on the scene by late Tuesday morning.

The horror crash, which occurred on the R33 in the early hours of Tuesday morning, left six others seriously injured. ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring says paramedics found the taxi upright in the middle of the road, while the overturned truck was on the side of the road.
