Police sign new rape kit contract
Updated | By Sibahle Motha
Police Minister Bheki Cele has confirmed his department has signed a three-year contract to ensure a sufficient supply of rape kits at police stations around the country.
Cele admitted in the National Assembly in September that 76% of the country's police stations did not have rape kits.
The shortage of rape kits was confirmed by President Cyril Ramaphosa during a question-and-answer session in the National Council of Provinces (NCOP) last week.

"Come 24 October everything will be there and we are very glad we have signed a three year contract so we won't encounter this problem that we have encountered," Cele said on Monday.
Hundreds of male police marched down the streets of Tshwane on Monday to raise awareness on the scourge of gender-based violence.
Gauteng Police Commissioner Elias Mawela, as well as the National Deputy Police Commissioner Bonang Mngwenya, were some of the senior police members in attendance.
