According to police, the officer was shot dead on Monday night at a local supermarket by three unknown suspects.

The suspects reportedly proceeded to another street nearby, where they shot another victim inside a vehicle.

The motive for the shootings remains unknown, and police investigations are underway.

"An attack on a police officer is tantamount to an attack on the State. I have mobilised resources, working together with Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation, to ensure that those who committed this barbaric act are brought to book. We further appeal to our communities to work together with the law enforcement, particularly the SAPS, to fight against crime," said Gauteng Police Commissioner Tommy Mthombeni.

Between October and December 2025, crime statistics reveal that 10 police official were killed in Gauteng.

4 were killed on duty while 6 were killed off duty.

Meanwhile, the Portfolio Committee Chairperson, Thebe Khumalo, reiterated the committee’s concern over the killing, which comes at a time when law enforcement agencies are facing personnel shortages.

“The Committee further notes with concern the continued proliferation of firearms in our communities, which remains a significant contributor to violent crime and the loss of innocent lives. As a Province, decisive action must be taken to remove illegal firearms from our streets and ensure that those who possess and use them for criminal purposes face the full might of the law.”

Khumalo added that police are continuing their search for the suspects.
