The province on Thursday complied with the party's national executive committee (NEC) order that names of party members facing criminal charges must be sent to the office of secretary-general Ace Magashule.

Khumalo is due to stand trial in the Potchefstroom Regional Court on charges of fraud and corruption involving R5 million allegedly meant for service delivery in his municipality.

The ANC's interim provincial committee spokesperson Kenny Morolong, confirmed the party's committee was set to meet on Friday to deliberate further on the step-aside list.

He said the committee will receive a list with names of party members affected by the resolution.

He added that the committee’s coordinator Hlomani Chuake did comply with the NEC's request on Thursday.

Morolong confirmed that all those facing corruption charges or are accused of other serious crimes, including rape - among other charges - were on the list sent to the NEC.

“You’ll remember that all these comrades have been given 30 days in which to step aside. The 30-day clause has not expired,” he said.

“We will explicitly express ourselves as to the next course of action once the 30-day period has expired.”
