Power finally restored to whole of Joburg CBD

City Power says power has finally been restored to all areas plunged into darkness by last week’s underground tunnel fire in the Johannesburg CBD.
The fire broke out last week Monday.
City Power spokesperson Isaac Mangena confirmed on Wednesday that power has been restored despite a few localised issues.
“As far as the CBD tunnel fires are concerned, all the areas that have been affected by this fire have been restored.
“We are aware of the localised problems and teams will be going through the network to identify issues and do the repairs.”

Mangena concedes that there are a few customers who still claim to be without power.
“It's just small streets and so that why we’re calling them localised problems. And we will be sending this out to basically to ensure that they look out for all those problematic areas and do the repairs.”
He says the city has a massive problem with criminals who take advantage of power outages.
“You know that during the downtime period of darkness when there is no electricity to do the opportune moment for criminals to basically vandalize our infrastructure and also steal our cables.
“So we may not be able to pick up some of these problems immediately on restoration.”
