Pravin Gordhan hailed as ‘extraordinary’ human

Anti-apartheid activist Sophie Williams de Bruyn has described the late Pravin Gordhan as extraordinary human being who served his country with his whole heart.
Gordhan passed away on September 13 after a battle with cancer.
He joined the struggle during the apartheid era and became an activist in the Natal Indian Congress and the South African Communist Party.
The late ANC stalwart held various ministerial posts in the country's cabinet.
His recent and last ministerial position was as the Minister of Public Enterprises from February 2018 until June 2024.
Williams de Bruyn spoke during the memorial service of Gordhan, hosted by the Ahmed Kathrada Foundation on Sunday.
“We are joined today by many who have been touched by comrade Pravin’s life and his work, from family members and close friends to colleagues, community leaders and ordinary citizens.
“Your presence here speaks volumes about the profound respect and admiration felt by so many for the extraordinary human being who sought nor failed and claimed no accolades or personal rewards.
“As we gather to reflect, it is important to remember that comrade Pravin was not only a public figure and a servant and leader, but he was also a key figure in the liberation struggle,” added Williams de Bruyn.
