Precious Ramabulana murder-accused charged with rape of minor

The suspect charged with the brutal murder of Limpopo student Precious Ramabulana will now also face a second charge of rape.

The 21-year-old student at Capricorn TVET College died after being stabbed 52 times in her rented room last November.

 

Ramabulana was found dead in her student accommodation in Mokomene, Limpopo after being attacked by an assailant in the early hours of the morning.

 

Aubrey Manaka is now also being accused of raping a 5-year-old girl in 2014.

 

On Thursday Manaka made his second court appearance at the Morebeng Magistrate’s Court for Ramabulana's rape and murder.

 

Spokesperson for the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) in Limpopo, Mashudu Malabi-Dzhangi, says the matter has been postponed to February.

 

"It was discovered now after the investigation that the accused has another matter so right now he has been linked to this other case, that is why it has been added.

 

"This case has been transferred to the high court. After he will be appearing again on the 4th of February."

According to the police's Leonard Hlathi, Dlamini was allegedly invited by her 30-year-old daughter, Nonhlanhla Mthunywa, for a visit. "Nonhlanhla apparently came with a male friend when she convinced her mom (Dlamini) about the intended visit and she agreed without any hesitation," explains Hlathi.

Malabi-Dzhangi adds further investigations are underway.

 

"All the charges, it's two rapes, the murder, plus the one of housebreaking," she says.

 

Community members and students flocked the gates of the courthouse in support of the slain student.
