Presidency denies Nkandla upgrade reports
Updated | By Marius van der Walt
The Presidency has strongly denied reports that President Jacob Zuma's Nkandla residence is due to undergo more upgrades.
The Sunday Times is reporting that millions more would be spent to fix Nkandla.
But the Presidency's Bongani Ngqulunga says: "There are no renovations of the private houses at Nkandla and no government department has indicated any proposal for renovations.
"We also wish to underscore that no government department, including the Department of Public Works, will be permitted to renovate any of the President's private houses in Nkandla."
According to the Sunday Times, the the Department of Public Works said processes are under way to refurbish the property - in some cases significantly - to repair shoddy workmanship and to address security concerns.
The Constitutional Court found that President Zuma failed to uphold the Constitution, when he was taken to court over the non-security upgrades to this home in KZN.
President Zuma was ordered to pay back some R7 million that was spent on non-security upgrades at Nkandla.
