The city's spokesperon, Lindela Mashigo, confirmed the Wapadrand substation's fire was extinguished on Tuesday afternoon, but could not comment on the damage and the exact cause for the fire.

The substation caught fire on Tuesday morning.

Mashigo says the potential cause of the fire was a panel trip due to a fault, however investigations are underway.

"The Wapadrand substation is seriously damaged, following the fire that broke out this morning. I can now confirm that everything has burned down, the place is gutted, the building has also burnt," says Mashigo.

Mashigo says officials are now focused on a temporary solution to restore power.

Residents of Equestria, Silver Lakes, Wapadrand, Faerie Glen and Olypmus will be without power in the meantime.

On Monday morning, the same areas also experienced a major outage, due to an alleged cable theft incident.
