Probe into death of Bloemfontein pupil killed in mobile toilet window
Updated | By Cliff Shiko
Free State police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a Grade 1 pupil at the Caleb Motshabi Primary School in Bloemfontein.
The eight-year-old boy was on Friday playing with his friends during break time inside a mobile toilet when one of his friends closed the toilet door and he could not get it open.
The boy tried to use the toilet’s framed window to get out, but unfortunately, his head got stuck and he was unable to get it out of the frame.
Spokesperson for the Department of Education, Howard Ndaba, says the pupil was eventually removed and was taken to a room where he was certified dead three hours later, whilst waiting for an ambulance.
"Education MEC Tate Makgoe has expressed shock and sadness at the death. The department has already dispatched officials from the psychosocial unit to render counselling services to the learners, teachers, and all affected by the incident."
