President Cyril Ramaphosa has signed the proclamation on the powers and functions of Electricity Minister Kgosientsho Ramokgopa.
Ramokgopa was appointed as electricity minister in the Presidency during a cabinet reshuffle this year.
The president's spokesperson Vincent Magwenya briefed the media on Ramaphosa's diary and other issues at the Union Buildings on Monday.
Magwenya said the president will make the announcement "soon".
"The president has not failed to allocate powers to the minister of electricity, in fact that issue has been resolved. The proclamation has been signed and you will have the details of the proclamation once it has been gazetted.
"Yes, it has taken time as it should because the necessary consultations that had to be held to ensure in resolving this electricity crisis, we do so in a manner that is harmonious with the workings of government.
"We take a consideration that the portfolio is a transitional and not permanent, therefore whatever powers you allocate to it you would not do so at the risk of causing short term or long-term instability in government."
Since his appointment Ramokgopa has been touring power stations nationwide assesing the units as the country grapples with higher stages of load shedding.
