Prolonged load shedding risk could see funeral parlours hike premiums

The prolonged risk of load shedding implemented by power utility Eskom may see funeral parlours hike their prices.
National Funeral Practitioners Association of South Africa (Nafupa) spokesperson Dududu Magano says constant power cuts is made worse by the high cost of diesel and additional operating costs that come as a result of the rolling blackouts.
"The critical one is that a number of mortuaries are having to run on backup most of the time. We find that the cost of diesel and petrol is increasing through the roof to the extent where you find that undertakers are considering increasing the costs of the services.

"Some of them are looking at increasing the premiums so that they are able to deal iwth the inrease. I think some undertakers have already started, and some are looking to find ways without killing your business. So by month end some undertakers will be looking at how this load shedding costs is factored into their price. By the end of the year you will find that there are a lot of undertakers who have gone under."
