Protesting Tshwane workers bring buses to a halt
The City of Tshwane says the bus service has been disrupted across various areas by employees who are protesting over late salary payments.
The disruption is affecting Centurion, Westpark, Danville, Olievenhoutbosch, the Central business District (CBD) and the north-eastern parts of Pretoria.
"We are doing everything to resolve the matter and we would like to apologise to the commuters for the inconvenience caused," says spokesperson Selby Bokaba.
On Thursday, Tshwane Head Administrator, Mpho Nawa, said the City is in a process of identifying and weeding out so-called ghost workers that have been illegally and unlawfully receiving monthly salaries.
The process experienced some technical glitches leading to over 7 000 legitimate employees not receiving their monthly salaries.
Nawa then gave the assurance that all employees will be paid.
