Public Procurement Bill to be submitted to Parliament this year - Treasury
National Treasury has committed to Standing Committee on Appropriations that the Public Procurement Bill would be submitted to Parliament in this financial year.
This comes amid allegations of corruption involving the procurement of personal protective equipment during the Covid-19 pandemic.
National Treasury's Chief Director of Strategy Procurement, Estelle Setan, told MPs on Tuesday that the department is compiling all the public inputs into the final bill.
"After this, a whole host of workshops with various stakeholders will continue.
"Public Procurement Bill, the relevance of it currently is that Covid-19 has taught us a few lessons in terms of the Emergency Procurement and might have not been a focus in the Public Procurement Bill as it stands," said Setan.
Corruption Watch and the Public Affairs Research Institute (PARI) have also added their concerns to the bill.
The two civil society movements have written a letter to Finance Minister Tito Mboweni and President Cyril Ramaphosa, urging them to show leadership as the bill moves through Parliament.

Corruption Watch and the Public Affairs Research Institute (PARI) have written an open letter to President Cyril Ramaphosa and Minister of Finance Tito Mboweni, expressing their deep concern at the high level of corruption allegedly committed through the procurement system.
Setan explained to the Standing Committee on Appropriations that the department doesn't have an integrated procurement system and these leaves the National Treasury vulnerable to the misuse of funds.
