The City of Tshwane has disconnected more than 40 embassies for R13 million in unpaid rates and taxes.
The city disconnected the buildings on Thursday.
Since the start of the year, the city has been conducting a switch-off operation that targeted government buildings, large businesses, and residential areas.
City spokesperson Selby Bokaba says the operation will continue until the end of June.
“We have switched off some embassies they were owing us R13 million after disconnecting some of them made full payments and we reconnected them and other made arrangements.
"They managed to reduce the debt from R13 million to R3 million, some of them received 14-day period final notices. The operation may have lost momentum, but it has not stopped.”
