Rain brings little relief for drought-stricken Cape
The recent rains have brought little relief to the drought-stricken Western Cape.
Dams in the province are, on average, only about 31% full according to the latest figures.
That's in stark contrast to this time last year's percentage of 56%.
But it's hoped that with tonight's cold front, the heavy rains and light snow will help fill up our major dams.
The Mother City's dams are sitting on 22,5% usable water left.
The Western Cape Government's James Brent-Styan says they are worried though that the province is reaching the end of its official rainfall season.
"The biggest dam, Theewaterskloof Dam, is currently sitting at 25% full. Last year we were sitting at 50%. That's very concerning," he says.
At this time last year, the Clanwilliam Dam was 97% full. It's currently at 33%.
