Ramaphosa breaks his silence on cabinet reshuffle
Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa says removing Pravin Gordhan as Finance Minister, based on an alleged intelligence report, is unacceptable.
The intelligence report stated that Gordhan and his deputy, Mcebisi Jonas were planning secret meetings during an international investment roadshow, to support their battle against President Jacob Zuma.
"I told the president that I would not agree with him on his reasoning to remove the Minister of Finance and I told him that this I would articulate publicly. So, this is where we are, he has made his choice," Ramaphosa told the media.
Ramaphosa said he will not be resigning.
"I'm staying to serve our people in government. I have made my views known and there are quite a number of other colleagues and comrades who are unhappy about this situation, particularly the removal of the Minister of Finance, who was serving the country with absolute distinction," said Ramaphosa.
